Research and development being a major pillar in the dynamics of the company, ETM seeks above all to imagine the maritime world of tomorrow. It is from this vision of things that the Béa project was born: the buoy connected.
ETM has been supplying for many years a majority of equipment for the realization of moorings on the Bassin d’Arcachon. As a result, as projects and feedbacks progress, ETM decided to invent a new mooring system that best meets the needs of customers.
The company carries out this project in its entirety: from the design of the buoys to the computer system allowing to administer them, while also optimizing the communication mode of the buoys.
The challenge: between evolution, reliability and environment
Nowadays, consumption patterns are constantly evolving, we are entering a pool of goods, of generation “cloud” and all connected. We therefore needed to rethink mooring systems, use technology to serve the environment and review the economic model of their management.
During the design of this project, ETM also had to take into account the specificities of the Arcachon Basin and therefore face technical and physical constraints, while paying particular attention to the safety and sustainability of the environment.
A smart product
The connected buoy whose main objective is to have a low environmental footprint, the bet is held: with its cork material, the Béa is a durable product, with a lifespan of 10 years (against 24 months for buoys on the market ), thus reducing the impact of waste reprocessing. In addition, its footprint is reduced, so it is non-invasive.
It is positioned as a solution to the multiplication of individual concrete dead bodies that attack the seagrass beds in the bottom of the Basin.h2>A secure product
The connected buoy was also designed for safety: it is a real communication link between the boat and the captaincy, thanks to an alert system. Signals are sent to the Harbor Master’s Office in case of tides, inclement weather, in case of risk of unintentional stall, in case of theft or any other unusual behavior on the boat. This system makes it possible not to solicit teams to monitor moorings without having information, but to solicit them only in case of problems.
An economical buoy
The Béa also allows the collection of information that will allow to better adjust the number of anchorages on the Bay of Arcachon. Thanks to its constant connection, it maximizes the profitability of each anchorage, thus increasing the capacity without increasing the number of spaces, but increasing the number of hours occupied for a buoy. In short, it allows to refine the management by offering each tenant periods à la carte. It therefore offers a simplified answer to a strong demand.
Adaptability to the existing
It was essential that the software management be similar to the existing while being innovative: the connected buoy project is easy to use, in general and at any level. It is easy to integrate into current Harbor Master software and is accessible from computers or an application. The service can also be flexible depending on the captaincy, being scalable and customizable.
